Dates and details for our training events.
Posted on Friday 13 February, 2026
We have two role-specific training courses on offer in 2026 - one for HODs and one for Deans. These courses are run from KAMAR HQ in sunny Mt Maunganui, except for the ones in May - they are in Wellington, the day before our annual conference.
By the end of these one-day courses, you will:
- Develop an understanding of the tools KAMAR has and how to use them.
- Perform a range of common HOD activities with expertise.
- Gain confidence with exploring KAMAR and furthering your own learning.
Here are the details of our two courses, including the dates! To find out more, and to register for any of these events, please have a look on the KAMAR website.

The day is split into five modules:

- Markbook Setup looks at the process of setting up markbooks, doing NZQA checks and producing a course outline.
- Creating Assessments is a big one, where we'll learn how to create a range of custom subject assessments.
- Other Markbook Bits looks at a few other markbook-related things, such as derived grades and moderation.
- Analysis and Reporting looks at the analysis tools at your disposal.

KAMAR for Deans
The roles of dean is a unique and complex one, often with many context-specific influences. Deans focus on student wellbeing and achievement and facilitate the provision of pastoral care to students, providing care across an increasing number of complex issues. Much of a dean's time is spent on:
- Reactive pastoral casework.
- Proactive, preventative pastoral care.
- The management and administration of pastoral care.
KAMAR has a set of powerful tools that deans use every day.
The day has been split into four modules:
- Essential Skills - a refresher of some basic (yet often missed) skills.
- Pastoral Responsibilities - exploring the tools KAMAR has in Pastoral and Learning Support, and monitoring attendance.
- Academic Responsibilities - how to track achievement, monitor attainment and make subject changes.
- General Tools - other tools used by deans, such as Notes, student flags, Letters and Passes.
Dates
- Term 1: 12th March
- Term 2: 20th May (in Wellington) or 18th June
- Term 3: 6th August
- Term 4: 29nd October
Financial Workshop
This one-day workshop focuses on KAMAR's financial area and how you can get the most out of it. The day will include a special guest appearance by Chad Britton, from the Ministry of Education. Here is an idea of what the day will cover:
- Setting up for success and creating charges.
- Processing transactions (payments, refunds, transfers) and managing siblings.
- Overseas students and "other" payers.
- Fundraising.
- Financial reports.
- Batching transactions.
